While U.S. manager Jurgen Klinsmann scans for help out wide – Brek Shea’s recent foot surgery and Landon Donovan’s career uncertainly have thinned the flanks substantially – one man who could eventually help is having trouble getting on the field.
Robbie Rogers, loaned from Leeds United to Stevanage almost three months ago, has recently recovered from a hamstring injury that had further limited his already sparse time at Broadhall Way.
Rogers did make a 67th minute appearance off the bench for Gary Smith’s club – Smith was the 2010 MLS Cup winner with Colorado – on Nov. 20 in a 1-1 draw with Bournemouth. The former Columbus Crew left winger was in Smith’s 18-man selection on Saturday but went unused in a 1-1 draw at home against league leading Tranmere.
Stevenage, which climbed into England’s third tier this year, is 7th after 20 rounds in the 24-team association. Smith’s club will need to climb into sixth by the spring to participate in the playoffs for promotion into England’s second tier.
