Bouremouth’s Howe calls effort “heroic"; Ranieri calls loss “too severe”

AFC Bournemouth v Leicester City - Premier League

The managers in Bournemouth’s 1-0 win over visiting Leicester City seem to be on the same page.

While the Cherries had most of the ball, the Foxes had more of the danger. Artur Boruc had to make several big stops to keep Leicester off the board.

And Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe liked his defense in front of Boruc, too. From the BBC:

“It was a heroic defensive display. I thought we were magnificent in that respect. Marc Pugh is the model professional, he’s been out of the squad and team. He has travelled around the country playing in development games and waited for his opportunity before taking it. It’s important to bounce back in this league because there will be moments when you don’t get what you want.”

As for Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri, he can hardly believe his luck. It’s hard to blame him after the Foxes got loads of breaks in their run to the Premier League title last season.

“The result is too severe against us because we created more chances than Bournemouth. I wanted a little more. A little more and we can score goals, recover more second balls. ... The second half was much better. They scored when we deserved to score a goal.”

Fine margins. Bournemouth moves to eighth with the win on 21 points, while losing would’ve had them a point behind Leicester City.
