MUNICH (AP) Germany midfielder Joshua Kimmich has extended his contract with Bayern Munich by three years through June 2023.

Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge says, “Joshua has become a mainstay of our side in the last 2 1/2 years. That’s why we’re very happy to tie him to us for the long term. Bayern has made a seamless transition into the future through his positive development in the right back position.”

The versatile Kimmich has helped Bayern make up for the retirement of Philipp Lahm by filling the former Germany captain’s position.

Kimmich has 13 goals in 109 competitive games since joining Bayern from Leipzig in 2015.

The 23-year-old Kimmich has three goals in 25 appearances for Germany.
