A few teams are doing their “due diligence” on free agent OL Shane Olivea, according to ESPN’s Len Pasquarelli.
Olivea’s major back injury and reputation for partying too hard left him out of the league the last two seasons. He’s still only 28 and has starting tackle experience, so he could latch on as a versatile backup on a desperate team.
  • Chargers RT Shane Olivea practiced on Wednesday and will start this week after sitting out Week 3.
Good news for the Chargers offense, as they been without Olivea since he was injured early in the Week 2 game against the Patriots. DE Luis Castillo (foot) did not practice, but he is expected to play Sunday. LB Matt Wilhelm (calf) did drills on the sideline, but he is still likely to sit out this week.
  • Chargers T Shane Olivea is day-to-day with a lower back strain.
Olivea went to the sideline with the injury against the Patriots, replaced by rookie Jeromey Clary. Veteran Roman Oben is another option if Olivea is declared out for Week 3. G Mike Goff (knee), S Clinton Hart (hamstring), LB Stephen Cooper (neck strain) and LB Shaun Phillips (quad) appear to have minor injuries.
  • Chargers RT Shane Olivea is not expected to play in Week 3.
Jeromey Clary will likely get his first career start against Green Bay. Clary held up respectably in Week 2 while subbing in after Olivea got injured.
  • Chargers T Shane Olivea left Sunday night’s game after having his body bend awkwardly underneath a pile.
Olivea was able to walk off the field, but left the sideline on a cart. His return is questionable. He was replaced by rookie Jeromey Clary, which should hurt the Chargers offense.
  • Chargers RT Shane Olivea has lost his starting job to Jeromey Clary.
Once considered a “core player” for the Chargers, the four-year veteran had started all but two games with the Bolts. Clary, who has one start under his belt, took over in the second quarter in Week 12 and practiced with the first-team on Wednesday.
  • Giants released OL Shane Olivea with an injury settlement.
San Diego’s former starting right tackle is now a free agent.
  • NYJ Tackle
The Jets are “pretty close” to finalizing a deal with free agent OL Damien Woody, according to Newsday’s Tom Rock.
Woody was at Jets headquarters Sunday. It looks like he’s their top choice, ahead of Chargers castoff Shane Olivea, to replace RT Anthony Clement.
  • Giants agreed to terms with OL Shane Olivea, formerly of the Chargers. Olivea had his four-game suspension rescinded.
Olivea, a 26-year-old with starting experience, is now eligible to play in Week 1. If he doesn’t show he’s changed his life around, Olivea will be easy to part with. Olivea’s upside could be as a swing tackle/guard behind Kareem McKenzie and Chris Snee. It’s a quality, low-risk signing by the reigning champs.
  • Giants placed OL Shane Olivea (back) on injured reserve, ending his season.
If Olivea gets healthy later on he’ll be released with an injury settlement. If not, Olivea will have to wait until next year to test free agency.
