Free agent TE Seth DeValve will be sidelined 10-12 weeks after undergoing toe surgery.
Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, DeValve’s operation “repaired a tendon and removed a cyst in one of his toes.” The 27-year-old was cut by the Panthers last week. Coming off a 12/140/0 campaign with the Jaguars, DeValve will be aiming to hit the free agent workout circuit by late September.

    Panthers released TE Seth DeValve.
Cleveland’s fourth-round pick in 2016, Carolina released DeValve with an undisclosed non-football injury only a few months into the 27-year-old’s contract. A part-time player with the Jaguars (12/140) last year, it will admittedly be tough for DeValve to latch on anywhere until facilities re-open to players. Expect him to sign elsewhere later this summer.

  • FA Tight End #86
    Panthers signed TE Seth DeValve.
DeValve spent last year in a part-time role with the Jaguars, making 12 appearances (six starts). He’ll help replace Greg Olsen in Carolina. DeValve gives the Panthers a No. 2 tight end to pair with Ian Thomas.
  • FA Tight End #86
Jaguars declared TE Seth DeValve, WR C.J. Board, QB Josh Dobbs, RB Tyler Ervin, CB Tae Hayes, OG Brandon Thomas and OT Will Richardson inactive for Week 12 against the Titans.
DeValve was ruled out Friday. With Josh Oliver (back), James O’Shaughnessy (ACL) and Geoff Swaim (concussion) all on injured reserve, the Jaguars are left with only Ben Koyack and Nick O’Leary at tight end. Neither are recommended streamers.
  • FA Tight End #86
Jaguars TE Seth DeValve (oblique) has been ruled out for Week 12.
Josh Oliver (back, IR) is done for the season, so the Jaguars will ride with Ben Koyack and recently-signed Nick O’Leary at TE. It’s a situation to avoid for the time being in fantasy, but the good news is even more of Nick Foles’ target share should land on his trio of WRs along with Leonard Fournette.
  • FA Tight End #86
Jaguars TE Seth DeValve (core) is inactive for Week 11 against the Colts.
Jacksonville is healthy coming out of their bye. Also inactive are QB Josh Dobbs, WR C.J. Board, RB Tyler Ervin, CB Tae Hayes, OL Brandon Thomas, and DT Dontavius Russell.
  • CLE Tight End #84
Geoff Swaim is being evaluated for a concussion after leaving Sunday’s Week 6 game against the Saints.
Swaim absorbed a brutal hit from Saints LB Demario Davis, who was flagged for unnecessary roughness on the play. With only a few minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, it’s safe to assume his afternoon is over. Swaim contributed one catch for five yards on two targets prior to exiting. With James O’Shaughnessy (ACL) on I.R. and Josh Oliver (hamstring) also inactive, the Jaguars are down to Seth DeValve at tight end.
  • FA Tight End #86
Jaguars claimed TE Seth DeValve off waivers from the Browns.
DeValve caught eyes in 2017 when he caught 33 passes, but he managed only five last year despite playing 531 snaps. In Jacksonville, he’ll have an easier time operating as a pass-catcher given the depth chart, though he’s still likely looking at just a dozen or so receptions per season.
  • FA Tight End #86
    Browns waived TE Seth DeValve.
The 2016 fourth-rounder saw his receptions total plunge from 33 to five last season. He played 531 snaps last season but was slowed by injury this summer. DeValve has averaged 12.4 yards per catch for his career, a solid number for a tight end. He’ll resurface elsewhere.

Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon-Journal said it’s “not farfetched to believe” second-year TE Seth DeValve could be the Browns’ most improved player in 2017.
Ulrich said DeValve put on “clinics” at OTAs and looks like he could emerge as a “go-to target for whichever Browns quarterback wins the starting job.” “He put on a little weight, he is noticeably stronger, he is faster and he is healthier,” said TEs coach Greg Seamon. “He continues to work hard technically.” DeValve should see more snaps with Gary Barnidge gone, but first-round pick David Njoku remains the most obvious roadblock.
