Mesko was due to earn $1.323 million this season. The Patriots have chosen to go with undrafted rookie Ryan Allen, who will make $405,000. Mesko, who struggled at just 43.1 yards per punt last season, will be on the short list when teams need punting help.

Allen missed the entire second half of New England’s Divisional Round win with a shoulder injury, but managed to practice on a limited basis this week. The Patriots didn’t sign a punter, so Allen is fully expected to play in Sunday’s AFC Championship.
