Ventrone

A pretty good indication that SS Pat Chung (thumb surgery) will be out against the Bills despite his surprising return to practice Friday. An undrafted free agent out of Villanova last year, Ventrone will be making his NFL debut if he’s active on Sunday.

Ventrone was waived just last Saturday, but cleared waivers and was re-signed to the Patriots’ practice squad. If he’s active against the Jets on Sunday, he’ll be making his NFL debut.

This marks the third time Ventrone has been waived by the Patriots since August. He’s notched one tackle in four games this season. As long as he clears waivers, he should be headed back to the practice squad.

This is the fourth time since September 24 the Patriots have signed Ventrone. He’s notched one tackle in four games this season. His signing could be an indication the Pats are worried about S Pat Chung’s (foot) status.

Thomas wound up appearing in four games for the Pats, starting none. Ventrone figures to be active for Monday Night Football to play on special teams.

Ihedigbo was brought to the Patriots to contribute on special teams, and with Josh Barrett going on I.R. he is now thrust into a starting role. Practice squad call-up Ross Ventrone replaced him, and both are well-below average players trying to put their finger in the dike. Valued practice squad signee Sergio Brown has fallen behind Ventrone.

Another week, another promotion for Ventrone, who has tallied one tackle in six games while being shuttled back and forth between the active roster and practice squad. He’s a good bet to be waived next week.

Absurdly, this is the sixth time Ventrone has been waived since August. He’s made two tackles in eight games between all the comings and goings. Perhaps one day the waiver wire will be renamed the “Ventrone wire.”

Ventrone has seen time on special teams in five games this season. He’s also been involved in 14 transactions. As John Sarmento of 2 Mugs Fantasy Football put it, Ventrone has been released “more times than an undersized trout.”

This is getting comical. It’s the 17th transaction involving Ventrone this year. His roster spot this week is likely needed for offensive line help after LT Matt Light went down against the Chiefs.
