Patriots placed WR Riley McCarron on practice squad injured reserve.
If you were holding onto McCarron in your Dynasty league, you can stop now.

The Boston Herald reports Braxton Berrios has outplayed Riley McCarron in camp.
“Both have a ways to go,” beat writer Kevin Duffy observed. The early scuttlebutt had been McCarron outplaying Berrios. The deep reserve slot men are fighting for snaps — and a roster spot — while Julian Edelman serves his four-game PED suspension. Berrios is a rookie seventh-rounder, McCarron a second-year UDFA. Berrios looks like the better own in Dynasty leagues.

Patriots waived/released WR Riley McCarron, DL John Atkins, P Corey Bojorquez, OL Luke Bowanko, OL Cole Croston, RB Kenneth Farrow, OL James Ferentz, DL Trent Harris, OL Jason King, LB Harvey Langi, DL Eric Lee, WR K.J. Maye, DB A.J. Moore, FB Henry Poggi, OL Brian Schwenke, OL Matt Tobin, DB Damarius Travis, TE Will Tye, DL Vincent Valentine, RB Ralph Webb and CB Jomal Wiltz.
McCarron had been fighting for slot reps while Julian Edelman is suspended. His release is a bit surprising since he sat out Thursday’s preseason finale. The Pats should look to stash the 2017 UDFA on the practice squad.
  • HOU Wide Receiver #0
ESPN’s Mike Reiss projects neither Braxton Berrios nor Riley McCarron to make the Patriots’ initial 53-man roster.
The Pats have a slot opening with Julian Edelman suspended and Jordan Matthews a free agent, but it would appear neither sixth-rounder Berrios nor second-year UDFA McCarron have done enough to force coach Bill Belichick’s hand. Things change quickly in New England, so Berrios especially could still be worth an end-of-bench spot in Dynasty leagues.
  • FA Wide Receiver #17
Patriots waived WR Riley McCarron and WR Chad Hansen.
McCarron made his own bed, failing to catch his lone target and muffing a punt at the Patriots’ 16-yard line in the team’s Week 1 win over the Texans. Chad Hansen, recently claimed off waivers from the Jets, will also look for another team. Patriots receivers now include Chris Hogan, Phillip Dorsett, Julian Edelman, Cordarrelle Patterson, and Matthew Slater.
  • FA Wide Receiver #17
Riley McCarron failed to corral his lone target in the Patriots’ Week 1 win over the Texans.
More concerningly, McCarron muffed a punt at this own 16-yard line. That’s the sort of gaffe that could get McCarron released on Monday.
  • FA Wide Receiver #17
Patriots promoted WR Riley McCarron from the practice squad.
The 2017 UDFA was hyped as a roster possibility for most of the summer before getting let go at final cuts. He’s now back in time for Week 1 and could see immediate snaps in the slot. Playing for a receiver-desperate team, McCarron is worth a flier in Dynasty leagues.
