Ricky Carmichael returns to design Daytona’s Supercross track for 18th time

For the 18th consecutive year, Ricky Carmichael has designed the Monster Energy Supercross track at the famed Daytona International Speedway, which will host Round 8 of the season on March 1, 2025. The 55th edition of the Supercross race will again be part of Daytona Beach’s Bike Week in its 84th year.

“It’s an honor to have Ricky Carmichael, the GOAT of Supercross, design the course for Daytona Supercross once again,” said Frank Kelleher, President of Daytona International Speedway, in a news release. “Ricky has an unmatched ability to create a track that challenges the riders while delivering an unforgettable experience for the fans. When you combine those elements, it’s guaranteed to be another can’t-miss spectacle here at Daytona International Speedway.”

The course is marked by a sharp right-hand corner off the gate, three long straightaways, and the always-challenging sand section. One straight runs the length of the frontstretch of the famed oval.

To increase passing opportunities, Carmichael has included a split lane.

“I tell you what, the split lane is always a lot of fun,” Carmichael said of his creation. “We work really hard to make it even and give riders lots of options. I’m looking forward to this year’s design; I think it’s going to be a lot of fun, no doubt, especially with the right-hand turn and a completely different track design as we’ve seen in the last several years.”

The Daytona Supercross race has long been the playground of Eli Tomac, who entered the 2024 event with a six-race winning streak there. He was unseated by the 2024 Supercross champion, Jett Lawrence.

Bike Week is a ten-day motorcycle celebration kicking off on Feb. 28 and continuing through March 9, 2025, following the intense, high-speed racing of the Daytona 200 running from March 6-8 along with Daytona Short Track taking place March 6-7. MotoAmerica has renewed its commitment to the Daytona 200 for the next three years.
