    Raiders waived QB Rhett Bomar.
Bomar has bounced around the league since being selected in the fifth round by the Giants in 2009. He had no chance of cracking the Raiders’ 53-man roster with Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart, and Terrelle Pryor in the picture.
  • FA Quarterback #15
Raiders signed QB Rhett Bomar to a reserve/future contract.
The Raiders also inked DE Hall Davis and S Curtis Taylor to reserve/future pacts. A fifth-round pick of the Giants in 2009, Bomar has yet to take a regular-season snap. He was among the Vikings’ final cuts this season.
  • FA Quarterback #15
Giants selected Sam Houston State QB Rhett Bomar with the No. 151 overall pick in the NFL Draft.
Not a good sign for Andre Woodson, who was stashed on the practice squad all last year. A huge recruit who ultimately got kicked out of Oklahoma -- paving the way for the much-better Sam Bradford -- Bomar has NFL caliber physical skills but didn’t even dominate at D-IAA. The Giants hope he’ll grow into a solid backup, but it’s hard to imagine him having a long career.
  • FA Quarterback #15
Giants signed fifth-round QB Rhett Bomar to a four-year contract, including a $185,183 signing bonus.
Bomar is competing with Andre Woodson to be the Giants’ third quarterback. He offers a nice combination of arm strength, athleticism, and size, but lacks Woodson’s accuracy. The loser will likely wind up on a practice squad.
  • FA Quarterback #15
    Giants waived QB Rhett Bomar.
Bomar was their fifth-round pick this season. It looks like the Giants are prepared to go with just two quarterbacks again this season, although they’ll probably try to sneak Bomar through waivers. If he gets claimed, Andre Woodson could find his way back onto the practice squad.
  • FA Quarterback #15
Giants signed QB Rhett Bomar to their practice squad.
The fifth-rounder from Sam Houston State didn’t play well enough in the preseason to attract any interest. The Giants will keep just two QBs on their active roster for a second straight season (Eli Manning and David Carr).
  • FA Quarterback
Giants signed QB Jim Sorgi to a one-year contract.
Amid concerns about the labrum in his shoulder, Sorgi was cleared to play by noted specialists Dr. James Andrews in Alabama and Dr. Lewis Yocum in Los Angeles. He will compete with Rhett Bomar for the No. 2 job behind Eli Manning. The 29-year-old is now qualified to caddy for both Peyton and Eli at all Manning family golf outings.
  • FA Quarterback #15
Rhett Bomar will get a real shot at being the Giants No. 2 QB, according to beat writer Mike Garafolo.
Bomar spent all of last season on the practice squad. He’ll have to beat out newly signed Jim Sorgi to be Eli Manning’s backup and we suspect the Giants don’t believe Bomar is ready to do that yet.
  • FA Quarterback #15
Giants signed QB Rhett Bomar off their practice squad.
Eli Manning is still tentatively expected to start and play the entire game. Bomar, who the Giants took in the fifth round this season, has spent the entire season on the practice squad.
  • FA Quarterback
Offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride indicated that Jim Sorgi has a clear lead on Rhett Bomar for the Giants’ backup QB job.
It’s no shock that the veteran clipboard-holder is leading the race, but it is mildly surprising that the Giants basically declared a winner before camp. Though Bomar showed flashes in spring practices, Sorgi received the bulk of the reps.
