  • FA Quarterback #8
If Rex Grossman’s preseason struggles weren’t enough reason for you not to use him this week, don’t be fooled into thinking he has a good matchup with the Lions.
Lions’ defensive coordinator Dick Jauron was the Bears’ head coach last season, and Detroit QB coach Greg Olson spent nearly every day with Grossman last season as the Bears’ quarterbacks coach. If anyone knows how to make life miserable for Grossman, it’s those guys.
  • FA Quarterback #8
Rex Grossman has looked excellent in Bears mini-camp this week, fully recovered from the finger injury he suffered during the Bears regular season finale.
Grossman is a fantasy sleeper next season in year one of the Bears “St. Louis” style offense. Most likely, he won’t be worth owning until 2005.
  • FA Quarterback #8
Rex Grossman has been cleared to resume throwing and will be ready for Bears mini-camp.
Grossman suffered a torn tendon in his right middle finger during their season finale, but didn’t need surgery. Grossman will already begin studying offensive coordinator Terry Shea’s new playbook. The Bears will open up the offense in 2004, putting Grossman on the fantasy radar.
  • FA Quarterback #8
New offensive coordinator Ron Turner has simplified the playbook since taking over for Terry Shea.
''We’re going to get good at a package of plays and then move on and tweak those as we go,’' quarterback Rex Grossman said. ''We’re already through the playbook. We’re reviewing stuff. Last year we weren’t even through the playbook maybe until [the second exhibition]. Where we are right now, I feel we could go play. We are ready.’'
  • FA Quarterback #8
Rex Grossman finished 5-of-12 for 77 yards in his preseason opener.
He looked healthy, but only led the Bears to one touchdown in four drives versus the Dolphins.
  • FA Quarterback #8
Rex Grossman was carted off the field with an ankle injury during Chicago’s preseason opener.
Grossman, who tore his ACL in week three last season, slammed his helmet on the cart before he left the game. Chad Hutchinson replaced him and would be the favorite to start if Grossman’s injury proves serious.
  • FA Quarterback #8
Rex Grossman will reportedly miss 3-4 months with a fractured left ankle.
Grossman was playing in his first game since tearing his ACL in week three. He could lose his ‘quarterback of the future’ status to rookie Kyle Orton by the time he’s healthy. Expect GM Jerry Angelo to be on the hot seat after failing to acquire a veteran backup - again. Chad Hutchinson should get the first chance to start.
  • FA Quarterback #8
The Bears are considering placing Rex Grossman on season-ending injured reserve.
After undergoing surgery, the Bears sound unsure about Grossman’s recovery time. They may not be able to hold a roster spot for him just in case he’s ready to play a few games. Grossman may not be at the top of the depth chart when he returns anyhow.
  • FA Quarterback #8
The Bears insist Rex Grossman is still their starting quarterback.
Brian Griese clearly outplayed Grossman, who finished the team’s preseason opener 3-of-11 and fumbled twice. Another poor outing by Grossman and strong showing from Griese could change things.
  • FA Quarterback #8
The Bears insist that their depth chart at quarterback is solid and that Rex Grossman isn’t fighting for his job.
He’ll open the season as Chicago’s starter, especially with Brian Griese recovering from a torn ACL. If Grossman were to struggle during the season, he’d be on the hot seat.
