Free agent S Reshad Jones’ offseason neck surgery has been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This means Jones, now 32 years old, is unlikely to find a team this season due to the inability to pass a physical and ultimately could be the end of his career. A two-time pro bowler, Jones produced a 10-year career after being drafted in the fifth-round, and was considered one of the league’s better safeties for a few seasons. Jones landed on injured reserve last season due to chest and ankle injuries after just four games.

    Dolphins released S Reshad Jones.
The move won’t be official until March 18, but Miami will end up saving $5.3 million against the cap. It was a logical move for a team that’s rebuilding and looking for younger talent. Jones, who will be entering his age-32 season this fall, ended up on injured reserve in 2019. Expect Jones to have interest on the open market, but he may have to sign a short-term deal.

The Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson considers S Reshad Jones a “top candidate” to be released by the Dolphins.
It’s a no-brainer move for the Dolphins, who likely would have cut ties last offseason if not for a boat load of dead money. Releasing Jones would create more than $7.5 million in cap room but leave behind $8.09 million in dead cap. Jones turns 32 later this month and ended this past season on injured reserve. Injuries have been a major issue over the last couple years for him.

Dolphins placed S Reshad Jones (chest, ankle) on injured reserve, ending his season.
Fellow DB Bobby McCain (shoulder) was also placed on I.R. Jones has battled multiple injuries this season, including chest and ankle issues on top of his history of shoulder problems. Turning 32 in January, this essentially ends Jones’ 10-year run with the Dolphins after being a fifth-round pick in 2010. He was once one of the league’s better safeties prior to the shoulder injuries.

Dolphins S Reshad Jones (chest) is active for Week 11 against the Bills.
He’ll be appearing in his first game since Week 6. OG Shaq Calhoun, DE Taco Charlton, CB Xavier Crawford, LB Raekwon McMillan, OT Isaiah Prince, C/OG Chris Reed and CB Ken Webster round out Miami’s inactives for Week 11. DE Avery Moss (ankle) will be in uniform Sunday.
  • FA Defensive Back #20
Dolphins S Reshad Jones (ankle) was upgraded to full participation at Thursday’s practice.
It’s his first full practice in a month. It puts Jones on track to return Sunday against Buffalo, which would be his first game action since Week 6. Jomal Wiltz had been filling in for him at strong safety.

Dolphins declared S Reshad Jones, OG Shaq Calhoun, RB Myles Gaskin, C Daniel Kilgore, DE Avery Moss, OT Isaiah Prince and CB Ken Webster inactive for Week 9 against the Jets.
Jones (chest) has only appeared in three games this year while battling an assortment of injuries. He did resume practicing on a limited basis, potentially putting him on track for a return in Week 10. S Walt Aikens (hip), CB Ryan Lewis (knee) and OT J’Marcus Webb (quad) are all active after drawing questionable tags on Friday’s final injury report.

Dolphins S Reshad Jones (ankle) is out for Week 2 against the Patriots.
WR Albert Wilson (calf) will also sit while DE Charles Harris (wrist), S Bobby McCain (shoulder), C Daniel Kilgore (shoulder) and OT Trent Harris (foot) are all labeled as questionable. With Jones, a two-time Pro Bowler, absent from a secondary that just yielded 324 yards and five touchdowns to Lamar Jackson, Tom Brady couldn’t ask for for a better fantasy matchup. The Patriots are unprecedented 18.5-point road favorites for Sunday’s divisional showdown in Miami.

Dolphins S Reshad Jones told Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson that he will not be traded in 2019.
The Dolphins have been looking for a trade partner all offseason, but teams weren’t willing to take on his $13 million salary. Jones will now play out this year before facing another drama-filled offseason next year since his contract makes him a cut candidate in 2020. The former Pro Bowler is still one of the better playmakers at the position.

Dolphins S Reshad Jones reported for mandatory minicamp.
Jones skipped the voluntary portion of the offseason program, but he was always expected to report for minicamp. The Dolphins want to trade Jones and his $13 million salary, but they reportedly are fine keeping him on the roster if a trade does not materialize. If he sticks around, Jones should slot in next to T.J. McDonald in Miami’s secondary.
