Converted CB Rashied Davis was impressive at Bears practice Saturday.
Justin Gage and Airese Curry sat out with knee injuries. Davis doesn’t project as a competitor for the third wide receiver role.
  • FA Wide Receiver #81
Rashied Davis had two catches for 31 yards and a 100-yard kickoff return for a TD as a starting receiver in Chicago’s Friday night preseason win.
The converted DB and former Arena Leaguer had over 100 yards receiving in Chicago’s first preseason game, now this. Bears beat writers have Davis competing with Bernard Berrian and Mark Bradley for the starting No. 2 receiver job.
  • FA Wide Receiver #81
Lions declared WR Rashied Davis, OT Jason Fox, S Erik Coleman, LB Justin Durant, SS Amari Spievey, RB Jerome Harrison, and QB Drew Stanton inactive for Monday Night Football against the Bears.
First-round pick Nick Fairley is active and will make his NFL debut after suffering a stress fracture in his foot during the preseason. Coach Jim Schwartz told ESPN that he anticipates Fairley playing “12 to 15 snaps” against the Bears. Davis, Fox, Coleman, Durant, and Spievey are all banged up.
  • FA Defensive Back #33
Lions CB Brandon McDonald did not return to the game Thursday after leaving with a knee injury.
McDonald suffered the injury while diving to try to stop a long touchdown pass in the third quarter. With Louis Delmas, Chris Houston also injured, wide receiver Rashied Davis played 5-10 snaps as an emergency corner, making two tackles. Coach Jim Schwartz doesn’t know yet if any of the injuries are long-term.
  • FA Wide Receiver
Special-teamer Rashied Davis was working ahead of Titus Young in Lions practice Wednesday.
The Lions weren’t expected to punish Young further for his idiotic Week 13 personal foul after benching him down the stretch of Sunday’s loss to the Saints, but it now appears his benching may extend into Week 14. Either way, averaging just 2.6 catches for 36.3 yards, Young isn’t worth WR3 consideration for the fantasy playoffs.
  • FA Wide Receiver #81
Bears signed WR Rashied Davis to a one-year contract.
Thanks to Devin Thomas’ surprising retirement, the Bears had a roster spot open for a wideout that plays special teams. Davis brings familiarity after spending the first six years of his career in Chicago. He caught just four balls in 11 games for the Lions last season.
  • FA Wide Receiver #81
    Bears released WR Rashied Davis.
Davis was nicked up with an undisclosed injury heading into final cuts. His release means Dane Sanzenbacher is a good bet to make the 53-man roster.
  • FA Wide Receiver #81
Lions WR Rashied Davis resumed practicing Thursday for the first time since injuring his foot more than three weeks ago.
This is the first we’ve heard of the injury, which speaks to Davis’ lack of an offensive role in Detroit. He’ll be limited to special teams duties going forward.
  • FA Wide Receiver #81
Former Bears and Lions receiver Rashied Davis has retired from the NFL.
Davis, 33, brought value to his teams as a special teams player. He didn’t play in 2012 after being released by the Bears in late August. Davis ends his seven-year career with 92 catches for 1,095 yards and five touchdowns.
  • FA Wide Receiver #81
Rashied Davis is expected to compete for snaps as a slot receiver this season.
There was some speculation that Davis would get cut, but the Bears didn’t draft a receiver and it doesn’t look like they’ll bring in a veteran. Once Davis fails to crack the Bears’ receiving rotation, he’ll become an expensive core special teamer. He won’t be a factor on offense.
