STAMFORD, Conn. – Dec. 26, 2024 – 2024 No. 2 overall pick Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders (10-5) host 2024 No. 8 overall pick Michael Penix Jr. and the Atlanta Falcons (8-7) in the Week 17 edition of NBC’s Sunday Night Football. Coverage begins at 7 p.m. ET with Football Night in America, followed by kickoff at 8:20 p.m. ET from Northwest Stadium in Landover, Md., on NBC, Peacock and Universo. With a win on Sunday night (or a Tampa Bay loss), Washington clinches its first playoff appearance since 2020, while Atlanta can clinch the NFC South division title for the first time since 2016 with a win on Sunday night and a Tampa Bay loss.
The Commanders beat the Philadelphia Eagles, 36-33, overcoming a 13-point fourth quarter deficit and culminating in a dramatic game-winning touchdown pass from Daniels to Jamison Crowder with six seconds left. Daniels totaled 339 yards (258 passing, 81 rushing) and threw a career-high five touchdown passes to lead Washington to its first 10-win season since 2012. Daniels now has the second-most rushing yards by a rookie quarterback in NFL history (737), trailing only fellow Washington QB and 2012 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Robert Griffin III (815), and is only the second rookie quarterback in NFL history to win at least 10 games and record 4,000 combined passing and rushing yards, joining Andrew Luck in 2012.
The Falcons defeated the New York Giants, 34-7, to move into first place in the NFC South. In his first career start, Penix Jr. threw for 202 yards, while running back Bijan Robinson rushed for 94 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The 2023 first-round pick currently ranks fourth in the NFL in rushing yards (1,196), while 2022 first-round wide receiver Drake London ranks seventh in the NFC in receiving yards (978).
The Falcons and Commanders meet for the 30th time, including the postseason, on Sunday, with Washington leading 18-10-1 in the all-time series.
Calling Falcons-Commanders is Mike Tirico (play-by-play); 17-time Emmy Award winner Cris Collinsworth (analyst); and Melissa Stark (sideline reporter). Three-time Super Bowl referee Terry McAulay is the Sunday Night Football rules analyst.

Peacock Sunday Night Football Final, an NFL post-game show produced by NBC Sports, streams exclusively on Peacock following every Sunday Night Football game during the 2024 season. The show is hosted from the game site by Jac Collinsworth, Harrison, and Dungy, who will provide instant reactions to each Sunday game along with highlights and interviews, while Berry will host a weekly segment called “DraftKings Crowning Moments,” where the fantasy sports analyst will discuss his successful bets from that day; he will also provide fantasy advice and an early look at the waiver wire. Football Night in America’s studio team will also provide recaps and insights into the day’s biggest moments, while Florio will provide injury and news updates.

FLEXIBLE SCHEDULING:
Flexible scheduling will be used in Weeks 11-18. Additionally, in Weeks 5-10, flexible scheduling may be used in no more than two weeks. In Weeks 5-17, the schedule lists the games tentatively set for Sunday Night Football on NBC. Only Sunday afternoon games are eligible to be moved to Sunday night, in which case the tentatively scheduled Sunday night game would be moved to an afternoon start time.
For Week 18, two Saturday games and the Sunday night game will be announced no later than six days prior to January 5. The schedule does not list Saturday games or a Sunday night game in Week 18, but games with playoff implications will be moved to those time slots. Flexible scheduling ensures quality matchups in all Sunday time slots in those weeks and gives “surprise” teams a chance to play their way into primetime.
