STAMFORD, Conn. – May 14, 2014 – The Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens will add another chapter to their historic rivalry tonight in a win-or-go-home Game 7 from Boston at 7 p.m. ET on NBCSN. A trip to the Eastern Conference Final to meet the New York Rangers is at stake. Tonight’s Game 7 is the ninth all-time between the Bruins and Canadiens, the most Game 7s between any two teams in major professional sports history.
NBCSN’s doubleheader continues at 9:30 p.m. ET with Game 6 between the Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings, as the Ducks look to advance to the Western Conference Final and a showdown with the defending Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks.

Tonight marks the ninth time in their 34 Stanley Cup Playoff series that the Bruins and Canadiens have squared off in a Game 7, more than any other rivalry in major professional sports history, and the fourth time in the teams’ past five series since 2004. In their most recent Game 7 in the 2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs, former Bruins forward Nathan Horton scored in overtime to send Boston on to the second round, and an eventual Stanley Cup title.
The Bruins will set an NHL record tonight by playing in a Game 7 for the seventh straight season. Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara has participated in 10 career playoff Game 7s, most among the two teams.
Two-time Emmy Award-winner Mike “Doc” Emrick (play-by-play) and Emmy Award-winning ‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst Pierre McGuire will call the action from TD Garden in Boston, Mass., their second Game 7 broadcast in 24 hours, following the Rangers’ 2-1 win in Pittsburgh over the Penguins last night.

Ryan Getzlaf and the Anaheim Ducks will look to punch their ticket to the Western Conference Final, and a showdown with the defending Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks, with a win against the Los Angeles Kings in Game 6 tonight at 9:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN. On Monday night, Devante Smith-Pelly scored twice for Anaheim, and 20-year-old rookie goaltender John Gibson stopped 42 shots for his second straight win, as the Ducks beat the Kings 4-3 in Game 5 in Anaheim, the first time the home team has won in this series. John Forslund (play-by-play) and Brian Engblom (analyst) will have the call from Staples Center in Los Angeles, Calif.
RANGERS-PENGUINS GAME 7 THIRD-MOST WATCHED SECOND-ROUND GAME EVER ON NBCSN, BLACKHAWKS-WILD GAME 6 MOST-WATCHED NHL PLAYOFF GAME EVER ON CNBC
Last night’s Game 7 between the New York Rangers and Pittsburgh Penguins, in which the Rangers advanced to the Eastern Conference Final with a 2-1 win, averaged 1.96 million viewers, making it the third-most watched second-round game ever on NBCSN, trailing only last year’s Games 6 and 7 of the Detroit/Chicago series.
Compared to the Capitals-Rangers Game 7 (1.68 million) in 2012, last night’s contest was up 16%. The game peaked with over three million viewers (3.06 million) in the 9:30 p.m. ET quarter-hour when the game was concluding.
Locally, New York delivered a 5.8 HH rating, the highest ever in the market for a second-round Rangers game on NBCSN. Pittsburgh posted a 19.3. NBCSN was the No. 1 network in both markets during the game.
Also last night, the Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Minnesota Wild in Game 6 of their series to advance to the Western Conference Final. The game averaged 1.815 million viewers on CNBC, making it the most-watched NHL playoff game ever on the channel. The contest peaked in the 11:15 p.m. ET quarter-hour with over 2.4 million viewers, and CNBC was the No. 1 network in both markets during the game.
In Minnesota, the game delivered a 15.6 HH rating, the best-ever for a Wild game in the market on any NBC network (NBC, NBCSN or CNBC). Chicago produced a 14.5 HH rating, the second-highest rating for a second-round Blackhawks game in the market on either NBCSN or CNBC.
During both Stanley Cup Playoff games last night, NBCSN (7-9:45 p.m. ET) and CNBC (9 p.m.-12:15 a.m. ET) ranked as the No. 2 network on cable across all key demographics within their respective time periods.
Through the first 13 days of the second round, NBCSN and CNBC are combining to average 1.464 million viewers, up 17% vs. last year. Throughout the entire playoffs, NBCSN/CNBC are averaging 855,000 viewers, up 32% vs. the comparable time period last year.
Both games last night set streaming records for two separate metrics each. Rangers-Penguins scored the best authenticated NHL game ever in uniques (71,459) and visits (79,122), and was also the best non-Stanley Cup game ever, regardless of authentication, in these metrics. Blackhawks-Wild delivered the best authenticated NHL game ever in live starts (204,798) and minutes consumed (3.876), and was also the best non-Stanley Cup game ever, regardless of authentication, in these metrics.
