Tokyo Olympian and U.S. Champion Emily Sisson and Two-Time NCAA Champion Conner Mantz Headline Strong U.S. Field
STAMFORD, Conn. – Oct. 6, 2022 – NBC Sports presents live coverage of the 2022 Chicago Marathon this Sunday, Oct. 9 at 8 a.m. ET exclusively on Peacock.
The 44th running of this World Marathon Major is expected to feature a competitive field of U.S. athletes headlined by Tokyo Olympian Emily Sisson, a six-time U.S. champion and the American half marathon record holder, as well as two-time NCAA cross country champion at BYU Conner Mantz in his marathon debut. Another notable U.S. runner is Laura Thweatt, who finished fifth at the 2020 U.S. Olympic marathon trials.
Women’s 2021 Chicago Marathon champion and 2019 marathon world champion Ruth Chepngetich (Kenya) and men’s 2021 Chicago Marathon winner Seifu Tura (Ethiopia) highlight an elite crew of international stars set to compete. 2021 Amsterdam Marathon runner-up Bernard Koech (Kenya), 2022 Daegu Marathon champion Shifera Tamru (Ethiopia), and 2019 Tokyo Marathon winner Ruti Aga (Ethiopia) are also expected to compete.
The Chicago Marathon will also feature appearances from eight-time Paralympic gold medalist Tatyana McFadden, who is the most decorated athlete in Chicago Marathon history with nine wins, as well as marathon world record holder and six-time Paralympian Manuela Schär (Switzerland). In the elite men’s races, five-time Paralympian and marathon world record holder Marcel Hug (Switzelrand) is set to compete alongside three-time Chicago Marathon champion and Paralympic gold medalist Daniel Romanchuk.
