Oakland was missing Buchanan and Charles Woodson yesterday and it showed. Jacksonville should put up big numbers on them next week.

Don’t look for it to happen. Buchanan has a cheap contract and Charles Woodson may not be back with the team. We can’t imagine the problem child will attract aggressive interest around the league.

Joe Gibbs is hoping to add one more underachieving punk he can’t control. Whether this deal happens or not, look for Oakland to be active trying to deal Buchanon or Charles Woodson this week.

Buchanon should take over as the Redskins’ nickel back, though Kevin Barnes has played well in his absence. Buchanon suffered a shoulder injury in Washington’s final preseason game, making it unclear if he’ll be ready to go in Week 6 against the Eagles.

The Redskins’ nickel back in 2010, Buchanon was re-signed to a one-year contract after the lockout ended. He served a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy before rejoining the team in October. Brandyn Thompson and Kareem Moore are candidates to take his spot on the roster.

A former third-round pick finally getting playing time in his third season, Barnes has held his own with eight tackles and a pick through four games. He’s been covering the slot on all nickel downs, allowing LCB DeAngelo Hall and RCB Josh Wilson to stay outside. Permitting just a 9.0 YPC and a 50-percent completion rate so far, Barnes is a better option than Buchanon at this point.
