Mariners fans react to Jean Segura trade

The Jean Segura trade is official and it looks like a win for the Phillies.

Wait, the Mariners are going to take both Carlos Santana and J.P. Crawford off the Phillies’ hands in exchange for a 28-year-old two-time All-Star shortstop?

While Phillies fans are excited, it’s just as interesting to see how Mariners fans are taking the news. Spoiler alert: Not well.

Let’s take a look at some of the reaction to the trade, including a few posts from our friends in the Pacific Northwest.

Let’s rationalize this for a minute. In my opinion, this trade comes down to three things. The first is money, the Phillies seem to have a ton of it, so taking on Segura and Juan Nicasio’s contracts don’t seem to matter. Second is how good you expect Crawford to be. To me, in his 72 games in the majors, Crawford hasn’t shown enough to warrant any type of future consideration. Finally, what can the Mariners flip Santana into? Surely they’re hoping he finds himself or becomes a valuable chip at the trade deadline to turn into more prospects.

While it’s nice to celebrate the Phillies becoming a better baseball team, sometimes it’s fun to see how another fan base is reacting, too.
