Phillies scratch Brandon Marsh with left ankle sprain

NEW YORK -- The Phillies made a late scratch for the second time in three games, removing Brandon Marsh from their lineup less than a half hour before first pitch Wednesday at Yankee Stadium.

Marsh is day-to-day with a left ankle sprain. He was in pain late Tuesday night, spending a minute or so on the ground after fouling a ball off his right foot but this was unrelated. He hurt the ankle going back to the warning track for a DJ LeMahieu flyball in the middle game of the series.

Marsh was in the initial lineup, batting ninth in center field. Cristian Pache made the start in his place in the 9-hole.

Marsh is off to a hot start offensively, going 5 for 15 (.333) with two doubles, a triple and a homer through four games. He made two costly mistakes Monday night, deciding at the last second to try to catch a sinking liner that went past him for a triple rather than a single on the Yankees' first at-bat of the game. Later in the night, he was thrown out after missing a stop sign from third base coach Dusty Wathan and rounding too far off the bag.

Marsh rebounded Tuesday night with a 436-foot homer to right-center off of Domingo German.

Pache is a defensive-minded center fielder acquired by the Phillies on the eve of opening day. He is a .154 career hitter in 336 plate appearances.
