Phillies 13, Marlins 6: Phillies finally solve those juggernaut Miami Marlins

BOX SCORE

It's not much solace, but a win is a win. The Phillies avoided a sweep by beating the Marlins, 13-6, in Sunday's series finale.

The Phils are 1-5 against the Marlins over the last week and 6-7 on the season. It is baffling how this team has largely been unable to pitch well or hit well against lowly Miami this season. The Phillies have allowed 15-plus hits to the Marlins four times this season, which is unthinkable when looking at Miami's roster.

The Phils are 43-40 and six games back of Atlanta pending tonight's result between the Braves and Mets.

Some observations from the win:

• Jake Arrieta picked up win No. 8 by allowing four runs over six innings with six strikeouts. He is 8-6 with a 4.43 ERA. Three of the runs Arrieta allowed came in the sixth inning with the Phillies up 10-1.

• Big day for Bryce Harper, probably his best game since May 29 when he hit a grand slam in St. Louis. Harper singled in a run in the first inning, singled in another in the sixth and hit a two-run homer in the eighth.

Harper is hitting .250/.368/.471 with 15 home runs and 59 RBIs. His numbers are all trending up, even though he hasn't truly gotten hot yet this season.

• Brad Miller has been a welcomed addition to the Phillies. He went 2 for 4 with a solo homer and an RBI single. He's the only Phillies pinch-hitter who has multiple extra-base hits this season and he's had a nice run as a Phillie so far, going 6 for 16 (.375) with a triple, two homers and five walks. He's reached base 10 times in 20 plate appearances.

• Cesar Hernandez, who was 0 for 8 over the last three games, had a three-hit afternoon. Hernandez has had multiple hits in seven of his last 10 games and is back up to .284 on the season.

• The Phillies are off Monday for the first time since June 13. After the quick breather, they have a three-game series in Atlanta, then three at Citi Field with the Mets before the All-Star break.

Nick Pivetta will face Dallas Keuchel on Tuesday night.

Aaron Nola pitches Wednesday night while the Braves haven't yet named a starter.

Vince Velasquez is tentatively set to face Mike Soroka in Thursday's series finale.
