Former Phillies general manager Matt Klentak is joining the Milwaukee Brewers' front office as a special assistant, according to The Athletic.
Klentak had two years left on his contract when he was dismissed as Phillies GM after the 2020 season and remained in the organization for the last 15 months, though not in a decision-making role. His title was Strategy & Development Officer, a newly created position.
Klentak spent five seasons as the Phillies' GM, 2016-20. The Phillies hired him four months after bringing in Andy MacPhail as club president. The team improved by 14 wins from 2017 to 2018 but couldn't achieve a winning record during their tenure despite having Top 10 payrolls in the last two years.

SIGN UP HERE Under the Klentak-MacPhail front office, the Phillies signed Bryce Harper and Zack Wheeler and acquired J.T. Realmuto. They also misspent money on Jake Arrieta, Carlos Santana, Michael Saunders and others, failed to build a quality bullpen and whiffed on multiple high draft picks, including the first overall selection in 2016.
MacPhail's contract expired after the 2021 season. From that regime, only former assistant GM Ned Rice remains in an administrative role under Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski.
