Daniel Brito, the Phillies minor-league infielder who had been hospitalized since collapsing on the field on July 31, is making progress and was transferred to a rehab facility earlier this week, the team said Thursday.
Brito, a 23-year-old from Venezuela, was playing for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in Rochester, NY when he collapsed and was taken to a nearby hospital for emergency surgery. He underwent another surgery the following day.
"He has shown progress in his recovery, and while there is still a long road of rehab ahead, his medical staff has marveled at his determination and competitive spirit throughout this process," the Phillies' statement read.

"Daniel's family asks for privacy as he continues his medical treatments."
Brito has been in the Phillies' organization since 2015.
"Not everyone knows Daniel, but he means a lot. He's one of us," manager Joe Girardi said on August 10, when the Phillies honored him with Brito Strong shirts.
"He's going through a really tough time. We're all praying for him and want him to know that we're behind him and we've got his back and want to do whatever we can."
