On the latest Phillies Talk podcast, the guys are back discussing Archie Bradley signing; a pick up Jim Salisbury calls “excellent for the worst bullpen in the Majors”.
The Phillies lost two players to the Braves via waiver claims: outfielder Kyle Garlick and right-handed reliever Victor Arano.
Garlick and Arano were designated for assignment last week, Garlick to make room for Archie Bradley and Arano to clear a 40-man roster spot for infielder C.J. Chatham, acquired on January 18 from the Red Sox.
The Phillies traded for Garlick last February 15, sending left-handed reliever Tyler Gilbert to the Dodgers. Garlick was acquired for his ability to hit left-handed pitchers but a role here never materialized. He appeared in 12 games for the 2020 Phillies, starting eight. He went 3 for 22 (.136), with a three-run double against the Marlins in mid-September, his only extra-base hit and RBIs as a Phillie.

Arano’s career got off to a promising start (2.57 ERA, 73 strikeouts in his first 70 innings) but he has pitched in just three games in the majors since 2019 because of an elbow injury that required surgery. The 25-year-old threw at the Phillies’ alternate site in Lehigh Valley last summer but had trouble regaining velocity.
