The two latest Phillies first round picks have already formed a special bond together, hoping to both achieve their dreams of pitching in Philadelphia together.

It’s very early in the career of Phillies prospect Andrew Painter, but with each appearance on the mound, the 2021 first-round pick is giving fans and Phillies management something to get excited about.

On Saturday, Painter made his third start of the season for the single-A Clearwater Threshers. Describing his performance as dominant may be an understatement.

He began the game with a strikeout, then allowed a double, and got the third hitter to fly out to right. That was the last hitter to put a ball in play against Painter.

The 19-year-old righthander pitched five full innings. After the first inning fly out, he struck out 13 straight hitters.

Insane. Five innings, one hit, no walks, 14 punchouts.

Here were his numbers from the start according to StatCast: 70 pitches, 50 strikes. 37 swings, 20 whiffs, 15 fouls, two balls put in play.

His fastball averaged 97.4 mph in the outing, and topped out at 99.8.

For the season, Painter has pitched 12 total innings, and allowed just four hits and a single unearned run. He has struck out 30.

Single-A ball in Clearwater is a long way from Citizens Bank Park, and not just geographically. The competition will get much harder for Painter, and he will have to make adjustments along the way.

But he continues to overpower hitters at this level, he could be playing closer to South Philadelphia soon.
