The Phillies selected right-hander Aaron Nola out of LSU with the seventh overall pick in Thursday's MLB draft.
Nola (6-1, 195) just completed his junior season with an 11-1 record in 16 starts and a 1.47 ERA. He also had 134 strikeouts compared to just 27 walks on his way to finishing as a Golden Spikes finalist, given annually to college baseball's top player.
The righty finished his career at LSU with a 30-6 record and a 2.09 ERA. Nola was also named SEC Pitcher of the Year in 2013 and 2014.
Nola, a 21-year-old Baton Rouge native, was drafted out of high school by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 22nd round of the 2011 draft before opting to attend LSU.
