Updated: Thursday, 10:22 a.m.

It appears the Flyers and a prospect are parting ways.

The Flyers placed Phantoms forward Radel Fazleev on unconditional waivers, according to a report Wednesday by Charlie O'Connor of the Athletic.

Unconditional waivers are for the purpose of contract termination.

Fazleev, selected by the Flyers in the sixth round of the 2014 draft, was on an entry-level contract with a cap hit of $675,000, according to CapFriendly.com. After his third season with AHL affiliate Lehigh Valley, the 22-year-old was set to become a restricted free agent in the offseason.

The native of Russia didn't quite find his niche with the Phantoms. Known more as a role forward, Fazleev had 10 goals and 27 assists in 143 career AHL games.

Over 15 games this season, he had two assists and no goals.

In other roster news, the Flyers sent forward Phil Varone back to Lehigh Valley Wednesday and then recalled him Thursday morning. So the Flyers still have two extra forwards; we'll have to wait and see who the final forward is in Thursday night's lineup — Varone, Jordan Weal or Jori Lehtera.

While with the Phantoms, Weal had great success under Flyers interim head coach Scott Gordon, posting 47 points (15 goals, 32 assists) in 43 regular-season games during the 2016-17 season. He was then called up and has been with the Flyers ever since.

The NHL holiday roster freeze begins tonight. Here's how it works:
