James van Riemsdyk is out four to six weeks with a broken right index finger.
The big winger was clearly unavailable to make the Flyers' team picture Monday morning at the Wells Fargo Center.
In his stead? Jacob Hurlbut, lead developer in the Flyers' analytics group. Pretty good choice by the Flyers as Hurlbut kind of looks like JVR, who stands at 6-foot-3.
As Dave Isaac of the Courier-Post noted, the Flyers will likely superimpose van Riemsdyk into the picture.
Hurlbut was promoted to lead developer during September after joining the department in 2016. Hurlbut can now say he suited up for the Flyers. NHL teams are always looking for quality depth.
And fans are already looking for Hurlbut's jersey.
