Aube-Kubel claimed off waivers by Avalanche

Nicolas Aube-Kubel's tenure with the Flyers has come to an end.

The Flyers placed Aube-Kubel on waivers Friday afternoon in order to free up enough cap space to take Kevin Hayes off of long-term injured reserve. Saturday, Aube-Kubel was claimed by the Colorado Avalanche.

The Flyers selected Aube-Kubel with the No. 48 overall pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. He played 102 games for the Flyers over the course of four years, logging 10 goals and 18 assists during that span.

Aube-Kubel was struggling mightily to start the season and was eventually usurped by Zack MacEwen and Patrick Brown for playing time on the fourth line after registering just one point in seven games.

His best season with the Flyers came during their COVID-19-shortened 2019-20 campaign when he posted seven goals and 15 total points in 36 games. Aube-Kubel seemed poised to serve as a key cog in the Flyers' bottom six after the 2019-20 season, but his play regressed significantly in 2020-21 as he managed just 12 points in 50 games while leading the Flyers with 44 penalty minutes on the year.

He is in the final year of the two-year, $2.15 million contract he signed last September.
