Barrett Brooks discusses all the elements that will be going through NFL players’ minds as they decide whether or not to opt out of playing in the 2020 season.
Folks, here's a reminder to always double-check what you read on the internet.
Rumors were swirling Tuesday about Nick Foles potentially opting out of the 2020 regular season. The Eagles legend was traded to the Bears this offseason, but under the NFL's recently-amended CBA, players can opt out of the upcoming season if they're concerned about safety during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
A number of players have already opted out, including Eagles wide receiver Marquise Goodwin, to protect their families. Foles' wife, Tori, recently gave birth to the couple's second child, which may have spurred the idea of Foles taking 2020 off.
It's unclear where exactly the rumor began, but by early Tuesday evening it had reached Philadelphia, and needed to finally be verified one way or the other.
NBC Sports Philadelphia's John Clark spoke with someone close to Foles, who confirmed that the 31-year-old is not opting out, and plans to report to training camp on time:
So there you have it.
Foles is expected to compete with Mitch Trubisky for the Bears' starting quarterback job.
