NFL rumors: Former Temple coach Sean Desai to be first NFL coordinator of Indian descent

A former Temple assistant coach, who also studied at Temple and earned his doctorate at the Philadelphia university, made NFL history Friday.

Sean Desai, 37, who spent the last eight seasons with the Bears in a couple different roles, will reportedly become the first NFL coordinator of Indian descent as Chicago's new defensive coordinator:

Desai was a coach at Temple for five seasons, serving as a defensive and special teams coach from 2006 to 2010. He graduated from Temple with a doctorate in educational administration in 2008, but spent the next two seasons post-graduation still working for the Owls.

Desai worked under three defensive coordinators during his time in Chicago: Mel Tucker, Vic Fangio, and Chuck Pagano. That's some pretty solid tutelage.

Also, of note to Eagles fans: the Bears had requested permission to interview Colts defensive backs coach Jonathan Gannon, who is widely considered a candidate for the Eagles' defensive coordinator position.
