Doug Pederson is the last coach standing in the NFC East

As the Eagles prepare for their wild card playoff game against the Seahawks, the rest of the teams in the NFC East are busy looking for coaches.

Doug Pederson will soon be the longest-tenured coach in the division.

The Redskins fired Jay Gruden during the season, the Giants fired Pat Shurmur on Monday morning and the Cowboys are reportedly just going to let Jason Garrett’s job expire.

Heck, Pederson isn’t just the longest-tenured coach in the division. He’s the only coach in the division.

(That probably won’t last long, though. Reports indicate that the Redskins are closing in on hiring former Panthers coach Ron Rivera.)

It seems so long ago when the Eagles hired Pederson and the perception was that they settled for their second or third choice. The hot names that year were Adam Gase and Ben McAdoo.

Since taking over in 2016, the Eagles have posted a 38-26 regular season record and have made it to the playoffs three times.

During that span, the Cowboys actually have a better record (40-24) but have made it to the playoffs just twice. And this season, they did way less with much, much more.

Meanwhile, the Redskins (25-38-1) and Giants (23-41) have been bottom-feeders throughout Pederson’s tenure as head coach in Philly. The Giants' next coach will be their third since Pederson took over.

After three losses coming off the bye, the Eagles were 5-7 but rallied to win their last four games and get to the playoffs. That’s a credit to Pederson and a sign that his messages are still getting through to the team. No one quit, no one pouted, they kept putting in the work.

While the roster definitely needs work this offseason, the Eagles are back in the playoffs with Pederson leading the way.

Just look around at the rest of the division. The Eagles are lucky to have him.
