Thank you, next
This is kind of a weird situation. The Eagles desperately needed the Bears’ help to get into the playoffs and they got it when the Bears took down the Vikings in Week 17. But now the Eagles are heading to Chicago to thank them in person and hopefully end their season.
NFL
Bears head coach Matt Nagy said the reason he kept playing his starters in that Week 17 game was because there were just too many scenarios to worry about and it’s a lot easier to coach to win. That’s true, but I seriously wonder if the Bears wouldn’t have been better off facing the Vikings this week.
Underdogs again
Depending on where you look, the Eagles are around six-point underdogs for this game. That seems like a pretty big spread for this game, but the Eagles certainly deserve to be underdogs for this postseason.
In the last playoffs, the Eagles rallied around the idea of being underdogs because they thought it was ridiculous that they were the top seed in the NFC and didn’t deserve to be underdogs, even without their starting quarterback. This year? They have a 9-7 record and needed help to get into the playoffs. If folks don’t think they can win, it’s their own fault.
Foles vs. unknown
Nick Foles seems to have reclaimed the same magic that made him the Super Bowl MVP just 11 months ago. He’s pretty hot heading into the familiar territory of the playoffs, while his counterpart, Mitchell Trubisky, will make his first career playoff start Sunday.
In four career playoff games, Foles is 3-1 with a 71.9 completion percentage, eight touchdowns, one interception and a passer rating of 113.2.
