2020 NFL draft grades: K'Von Wallace a potential solution at safety for Eagles

With their first of three picks in the fourth round, the Eagles finally make a decision that isn't mired in controversy by calling on K'Von Wallace. Wow. Who made that choice?

It's safe to say the Eagles aren't completely sold on Jalen Mills as the heir apparent to Malcolm Jenkins, nor free-agent addition Will Parks for that matter. Not that it should come as any surprise considering both are on one-year contracts and Mills hasn't even played safety in the NFL.

The selection of Wallace would only seem to confirm the obvious, as the Clemson product appears to very much fit the mold of an Eagles strong safety — a defender who can line up in the box and cover bigger slot receivers.

Wallace isn't exceptionally big or athletic, nor is he slow or undersized at 5-foot-11, 205 pounds with 4.53 speed. And he was productive in college, particularly during a senior year in which he racked up 72 tackles, 2.0 sacks, two interceptions and 10 pass breakups. He has a reputation as a big hitter with versatility to move around the defense.

Not only does Wallace project as a potential solution at safety, at least in the short-term, but depending on how quickly he picks things up, it could even allow Mills to move back to corner, where the Eagles still appear to have an opening on the depth chart.

Granted, that might be a tad ambitious, especially with the limited offseason ahead. Either way, it's easy to envision how Wallace could help the Eagles immediately, which was not necessarily the case in the third round, and certainly not in the second.

Curious why it took this long to do something so perfectly sensible and easily explained, but here we are.

Grade: B+
