Osiel Rodriguez, a 15-year-old Cuban right-hander, touched 96 mph during Thursday’s Nations Baseball Showcase in the Dominican Republic.
Rodriguez dazzled in his brief performance, throwing 13 of his 17 pitches for strikes and routinely sitting at 95 mph while touching 96 mph once. He recorded three strikeouts and a pair of ground balls. He’s considered the top pitching prospect in the 2018 class. Rodriguez is eligible to sign with a major league club on July 2, 2018.
