The 2020-21 FA Women’s Super League (WSL) season resumes this weekend. Since the season began last month, several more American players - including Alex Morgan, Christen Press, and Tobin Heath - have traveled across the Atlantic to join WSL teams. Here’s what you need to know ahead of this weekend’s matches:
The Basics
The FA Women’s Super League (WSL) is the top level of women’s professional soccer in England, and thanks to recent signings by several American stars, it is currently challenging for the title of most competitive league in the world.
The WSL includes 12 clubs. At the end of each season, the lowest rank team in the WSL is relegated to the second-tier FA Women’s Championship, while the highest ranked FA Women’s Championship team earns a spot in the WSL.
The current season began in September and is scheduled to conclude on May 9, 2021.
