Olympic champion Yuzuru Hanyu needs two to three weeks to recover from injuries sustained in a collision with another figure skater before the Cup of China free skate Saturday.

“I’m very sorry for all the trouble and worry I have caused, but first I need to rest and get better,” Hanyu said in a Japan Skating Federation statement, according to The Associated Press.

Hanyu suffered bruises to his head, chin and thigh and sprained an ankle.

The skater said he will determine his upcoming schedule while he sees how he recovers. The 19-year-old is still entered in the NHK Trophy in Osaka on Thanksgiving weekend.

Hanyu and China’s Han Yan collided in a warm-up for the Cup of China free skate Saturday. Both skaters received medical attention and went on to compete. Hanyu, who fell five times and finished second, needed stitches for a cut on his chin.
