The U.S. has a chance to notch a speed skating medal at the women’s 500m kicks off at 7:45 a.m. ET on Tuesday.
The general feeling is that Lee Sang-hwa is a heavy favorite in the event. The South Korean speed skater is a world-record holder and seems to be quite a bit ahead of the pack (at least on paper).
Again, a U.S. skater might just make the podium, as Heather Richardson has a nice chance of grabbing a medal. That would be qutie the accomplishment as a women’s speed skater hasn’t won a medal for the U.S. since 2002 (a historic Olympics for the country’s program).
Brittany Bowe is another U.S. name to watch.
