Sunday stands to be a big day for Dorian Van Rijsselberghe of the Netherlands in the men’s RS:X competition, as he’s well-positioned to take home a gold medal. After Friday’s races no racer can post a score lower than his (29 points), and Great Britain’s Nick Dempsey (52 points) is in a similar position when it comes to the silver medal. That leaves the bronze, with Pierre Le Coq (89 points) of France and Greece’s Vyron Kokkalanis (91 points) looking to chase down Poland’s Piotr Myszka (86 points).
The women’s RS:X race is much closer heading into Sunday, with Italy’s Flavia Tartaglini in first with 67 points. Stefaniya Elfutina of Russia (71 points) and Chen Peina of China (75) are both within striking distance of the leader. There will also be races in the mixed Nacra 17, but no medals will be awarded.
As for shooting, the men’s 50 meter rifle (three positions) competition is on the schedule with Americans Daniel Lowe and Matthew Emmons in the field. While Emmons won gold in prone shooting in 2004 and silver in 2008, he took bronze in the three positions event in 2012 but had the chance to win more medals in 2004 and 2008. Italy’s Niccolo Campriani, who won gold in this event four years ago, took gold in the 10 meter rifle competition in Rio.
