Vancouver gold medalist Yuna Kim holds a slim lead over Russia’s Adelina Sotnikova and Italy’s Carolina Kostner going into the final day of the ladies’ figure skating competition today at Iceberg Skating Palace.

Sotnikova emerged as a surprise contender to Kim in yesterday’s short program, becoming the host nation’s best hope for gold after Yulia Lipnitskaia’s fall.

As for the Americans, Gracie Gold sits fourth after the short program but will need a great free skate to get onto the podium. The U.S. hasn’t earned a ladies’ medal since Sasha Cohen’s silver at Torino in 2006.
Gold, along with teammate Ashley Wagner (sixth), will be among the final group of skaters today at the Iceberg. The third U.S. competitor, Polina Edmunds, runs seventh.
