Both U.S. Olympic figure skating pairs teams are no more, less than six months after Sochi.
Felicia Zhang and Nate Bartholomay joined Marissa Castelli and Simon Shnapir in ending their partnership, U.S. Figure Skating announced Wednesday. Castelli and Shnapir’s split was announced two months ago.
Zhang and Bartholomay finished behind Castelli and Shnapir at the Sochi Olympics (12th) and Saitama World Championships (14th). They were U.S. bronze medalists in 2013 and silver medalists this year.
Zhang, 20, retired.
“Although I am saddened by her retirement, I support her decision and wish her all the best in her future,” Bartholomay, 25, said in a press release. “I will never forget our experience in Sochi and the dream that was fulfilled. I’m looking forward to moving on with my career and representing the United States in the next Olympic cycle.”
The 2010 U.S. Olympic pairs teams -- Amanda Evora and Mark Ladwig and Caydee Denney and Jeremy Barrett -- were both finished by April 2012.
The U.S. has not won an Olympic pairs medal since a bronze in 1988, its longest drought of any discipline.
