A historic first marked the ski jumping program at the Sochi Olympics, as a women’s event took place for the first time at a Winter Olympics.
Carina Vogt of Germany won the inaugural Olympic gold medal in perhaps the most important debut event of the 12 that took place in Sochi.
More history was also made on the men’s side as Poland’s Kamil Stoch joined Matti Nykanen and Simon Ammann as just the third man to sweep both individual events.
And after coming into Sochi with just one Olympic medal on his resume dating back to 1994, 41-year-old Noriaki Kasai of Japan won two of them.
Greg Ferraro of NBCOlympics.com has more on these great moments that took at the RusSki Gorki Jumping Center.
