You don’t have to know an Axel from a Salchow to appreciate a great show, and the 2014 Sochi Olympics had a great show in figure skating.
The U.S. may not have been able to medal for the first time in men’s and women’s since 1936, but we saw enough from the likes of young guns Gracie Gold, Ashley Wagner, Polina Edmunds, and Jason Brown to at least have positive thoughts on the future.
Meanwhile, ice dancers Meryl Davis and Charlie White fulfilled the destiny they’d been chasing since they were merely kids.

We saw Yevgeny Plushenko turn back time - at least for a while. We saw Adelina Sotnikova rejuvenate a nation after its beloved hockey team fell short. We saw the emergence of a force for years to come in Yulia Lipnitskaia, and we saw true grit from Jeremy Abbott.
