The fastest marathoner in American history, Ryan Hall, spent Monday morning doing what he does best: disappointing everyone.

Following his failure to make it to the twelfth mile of the London Olympics marathon before grabbing his thigh and pulling out of the race, the California native has officially dropped out of November’s New York City Marathon, too, according to Velonews.com.

“I was hoping that after some time off and treatment after the Games, the string of nagging injuries I’ve been dealing with this year would be behind me,” Hall said. “After trying to run through, I came to the realization when keeping the big picture in mind, that I needed to take a longer break to let things heal and not rush the training. “

Hall became the first American to break the 2 hours 5 minutes mark in 2011 and has finished in the top-4 of the Boston marathon three times, but he’s never won an international event and, at 29, London was likely his best chance at medaling. Maybe it’s time he moved on to Reality TV.
