Does the Miracle on Ice feel like it’s 35 years old?

“It depends on what day,” 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey player Rob McClanahan said, laughing. “Some days it does.”

McClanahan spoke with NBCSN in advance of the 35-year anniversary of the U.S. win over the Soviet Union at the Lake Placid Olympics, en route to a gold medal.

“I don’t know if amazed is the word that comes to my mind,” said McClanahan, whose Miracle on Ice game jersey is reportedly up for auction. “I would say as the years progress, for me, it’s pride, the fact that we actually accomplished something like that. People call it a miracle, but it wasn’t without its hard work and its preparation. If there’s one thing that [coach] Herb [Brooks] taught us, it’s to make sure we were prepared.”

Many members of the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team will gather in Lake Placid in two weeks on the anniversary date of the win over the Soviets. NBC Sports will also be there with coverage from the weekend event.
