The father of Reeva Steenkamp, the woman shot and killed by then-boyfriend Oscar Pistorius, said on South African TV that he would like to meet Pistorius.
Pistorius, the first double amputee to run in the Olympics in 2012, was moved from prison to house arrest Oct. 19 after spending nearly one year in jail after being convicted of culpable homicide but not murder following the Valentine’s Day 2013 shooting.
“I think I will get more closure one day if I get the chance to speak to Oscar myself,” Barry Steenkamp said. “Most probably I won’t have to say anything. I will just have to look at him, but that is what I would like to do one day.”
Pistorius, 28, could go back to jail if he’s convicted of murder in a Nov. 3 appeal.
June Steenkamp, Reeva’s mother, has repeated that she doesn’t care about the appeal and that she doesn’t want to see Pistorius suffer.
“It would be wrong of me to say I feel sorry for him. How could I feel sorry for him?” Barry Steenkamp said on South African TV on Sunday. “I just thought to myself -- man, you brought this on yourself, and you have been very lucky with the sentence.”
