“The Face of Ukraine: Casting Oksana Baiul” is on the lineup for the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, in January.
Baiul, then 16, won the 1994 Olympic women’s figure skating title over Nancy Kerrigan.
Sundance teased the Australian documentary short film this way:
Adorned in pink sequins, little girls from across a divided, war-torn Ukraine audition to play the role of Olympic champion figure skater Oksana Baiul, whose tears of joy once united their troubled country.
IMDB lists the film as eight minutes long.
A much longer film about 1984 and 1988 Olympic champion Katarina Witt, “The Diplomat,” was shown at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival in New York.
