Mikaela Shiffrin gets her own street in Vail

Mikaela Shiffrin

In March, Mikaela Shiffrin received a lifetime ski pass from Vail Resorts.

In July, she was grand marshal of the town’s Independence Day parade.

On Monday, she unveiled her own street in Vail.

“It’s surreal to have a street named after me,” she told Vail Daily.

Shiffrin, who became the youngest Olympic slalom champion ever in Sochi, will open the 2014-15 season in Soelden, Austria, in a little more than three weeks. She hopes to race her first speed event this season, adding to her usual plate of slalom and giant slalom.

She said Monday the plan is to race one World Cup super-G before the World Championships in Vail in February, when she also hopes to race super-G.
