Maksim Trankov (pictured, right), who won the pairs’ figure skating competition with partner Tatiana Volosozhar and helped Russia win the inaugural Olympic team figure skating competition, has been chosen as the host nation’s flagbearer for today’s Closing Ceremony.

Trankov and Volosozhar’s two golds were part of a 33-medal haul for Russia, which sealed up the medal count today after a 1-2-3 sweep in the men’s cross-country mass start and a victory in the four-man bobsled.

No doubt it’ll be a triumphant entrance for Trankov and his countrymen today at Fisht Olympic Stadium.

“It’s athletes who choose [the flag bearer],” Russian Olympic Committee president Alexander Zhukov said to RIA Novosti. “Trankov is an amazing athlete.”
