Bolt cruises in 100m heat, USA’s Gatlin leads; No runner breaks 10

Athletics - Olympics: Day 8

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - AUGUST 13: Usain Bolt (C) of Jamaica, Richard Thompson of Trinidad and Tobago and James Dasaolu of Great Britain compete in the Men’s 100m Round 1 on Day 8 of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games at the Olympic Stadium on August 13, 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Usain Bolt took his first 100m run of the Olympics pretty easy.

Unlike recent Games, that wasn’t enough to annihilate the field, as Bolt’s casual striding 10.07 was just enough to finish first in his heat.

Justin Gatlin ran a 10.01 for Team USA to win his heat and pace the field.

Bolt’s time was the fourth-fastest of the preliminaries. Ben Youssef Meite of the Ivory Coast finished second and Andre De Grasse of Canada was second.

Ex-NFL running back Jahvid Best ran a 10.39 for Saint Lucia, finishing 7th in Bolt’s heat.

Other notables:

JAM - Yohan Blake, 6th (10.11)
USA - Trayvon Bromell, T-8th (10.13)
USA - Marvin Bracy, T-15th (10.16)
