Aleksander Zubkov, who swept the two- and four-man bobsled titles at the Sochi Olympics, announced his retirement Wednesday, according to Russian media.

Zubkov, 40, said in September he would not compete this season. He suffered arm and wrist injuries in a confrontation involving attackers smashing his Mercedes-Benz in May.

Zubkov, who also carried the Russian flag at the Sochi Opening Ceremony, won Olympic four-man silver in 2006 and two-man bronze in 2010. He also won six World Championships medals from 2005 through 2013.

The World Cup bobsled season starts in December.
